INTRAMURAL ACTIVITIES

As another school year commences, we would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the intramural sports programs available to both Bishop's and Champlain full-time students. No matter what sports you enjoy playing, the intramural program offers a wide variety of individual, team and coed sports to suit your preference.

In past years, intramural sports have proven to be not only a good form of exercise, but also competitive fun, and a forum to meet new people. Therefore, as intramural coordinator, we invite all of you to get out and participate.

Registration Info Residence Cup Intramural Format Sport Description

REGISTRATION INFORAMTION:

Registration for all intramural activities will be completed on-line @ www.ubishops.ca/gaiters/intramurals. Most team sports have limits to the # of teams for each league. Therefore it is a first come, first served basis to ensure a spot in a league for your team. Champlain students must sign up on-line as well as register with Cathy Matthew at the Champlain Administration building.

Team/Individual Sport Registration:

  • Complete registration form on-line @ www.ubishops.ca/gaiters/intramurals.
  • Each team must have a representative and the required DEFAULT DEPOSIT at the CAPTAIN'S MEETING. Teams without representation risk missing important information or even being bumped from leagues with high demand.
  • Registration for Winter Semester sports will start in November.

*NOTICE THAT REGISTRATION DEADLINES FOR THE FOLLOWING WINTER SEMESTER SPORTS TAKE PLACE IN NOVEMBER: Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, Coed, Men's & Women's Indoor Soccer and Coed Curling.

Individual Registration for Team Sports:

If you are unable to form a team, but would like to play, just show up at the captain's meeting for the sport you are intetrested in and you will be placed on a team.

Captain's Meetings:

  • All meetings will be held in the Sports Centre Conference Room or Classroom.
  • The Captain's Meeting will cover: Schedule Distribution, Rules and Eligibility.
  • Each team must have a representative present or risk being bumped from a league.
  • Default Deposits will be taken at this meeting.

Default Deposits & League Fees:

  • Each team is required to pay a $25 refundable deposit for each sport. Ice Hockey is an exception and requires a $500 league fee. Ice hockey`s league fee will cover the cost of off campus ice rental & certified referees.
  • Default Deposits are returned at the end of the schedule if a team has fielded an adequate number of players for each match without any disciplinary problems. The $25 fee is lost after the first default and the team is removed from the league after the 2nd default.
  • A default occurs when a team does not or cannot field a team for a game or match. If a team contacts the Intramural Office 48 hours prior to the match and to state it cannot field a team there will be no penalty. In these situations it is unlikely the game will be able to be rescheduled. It is also the responsibility of that team to contact their opponent to notify them of the change.

Eligibility:

  • All Bishop's and Champlain full time students are eligible.
  • Bishop's staff, faculty and alumni with a Sports Centre membership are eligible.
  • Participants may play for only one team in the same sport, this also applies when a team is in an 'A' league or 'B' league of the same sport.
  • Current Varsity players are not eligible to play their respective sport. The exception is Women's Indoor Soccer where there is a limit of 3 players with varsity experience allowed per team. There is also a limit of 3 players per team with varsity experience in the basketball leagues.
